Q: What does a Giraffe, a Monkey & a sweet 18 have in common?!?

A: They are all themes of 3 cakes I am making for this weekend!

The 3D Giraffe is for a baby shower on Sunday. The sweet 18, with the cool bow on top, is for a party on Sat. And the pretty purple, brown and white one is for the same shower on Sunday.

Stayed up a bit late getting these three complete but Im happy with the results! 🙂

When I was growing up there was a really fun cartune & video game called “Sonic”. This little blue guys goal was to collect all of the coins and battle his emenies all at sonic boom speeds.

Well apparently Sonic is back! I got a request for a Sonic Cupcake cake for a 6 year olds birthday. It was quite the change as cupcakes are not easy to shape but I think he was a success 🙂 The mom and her son were happy with the final product so Im happy!

Happy Sunday! This post goes out to all of you who are active in a child’s life.

From about age 2, children love to do what you are doing. From about age 3, they can actually help with what you’re doing and it may take a little longer but you can teach them along the way.

Examples:

-We LOVE baking together

-Her and her 1.5 year old brother love helping with general house work

-Gardening (when weather permits)

-They both love making personal cards for people

-Working out

One of my favorite things to do with my 3 year old is bake. She is learning percentages, how to follow specific directions, and just general math skills. The quality time she and I have had together is just priceless and we are being productive at the same time!

One of our children’s Christmas gifts this last year were a vacuum and a broom. Both of them were extactic to have their own cleaning supplies. Both of them have always been allowed to get our rags out and clean with them which has cultivated a sense of responsibly. When our almost 2 year old accidently spills something, without a word, he gets up… get a rags… and cleans it up. I typically need to clean up a bit after him but what awesome life skills! We didn’t purposefully teach him that, he just enjoys being able to be responsible- and we are not objecting!

Last summer my father in-law grew quite the garden. He and my mother in-law watched both of the kids every Fri. during the day and Natalie, our 3 year old, 2.5 at the time, enjoyed helping so much that her grandma bought her her own set of tools. They were dull of course but she just loved getting dirty and she learned so much about how things grow.

Scrapbooking has been a part of my life since we found out we were pregnant. When our daughter got old enough to understand what I was doing, she started asking if she could help. The control freak that I am, of course couldn’t allow that, so I got her her own set haha Now our son, Trenton, has his own set too. They dont scrapbook because their attention spans just arent long enough, but they totally enjoy making cards for friends and loved ones. I didnt realize how much coordination it takes to put stickers on the exact way you want them.  Apparently it takes quite a bit! A lot of times I am shocked by how well they do with their cards and people just love them!

The kids get such a sense of accomplishment when they complete a task that they have set out to do, whatever that task may be. My kids are the light of my life and I wouldn’t appreciate the simplicity of my every day activities without them. I hope some of these ideas were helpful to you! They are now a part of our everyday life.

Banana Pancakes

Filed under: Uncategorized — clneal @ 9:51 am

A great friend of mine requested a cake that looks like a stack of pancakes with a side of bananas for her anniversary. This should be quite the challenge 🙂 Apparently the song “banana pancakes” by the Jack Johnson Band is one of their personal favorites so she wants to surprise him! How cute is that going to be?!?
